Managing a medical practice has many challenges, not the least of which is risk management. Risk areas include everything from credentialing to documentation to patient follow up. This presentation discusses risk, common types of claims, and the basics of avoiding medical malpractice lawsuits.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion, participants should be able to:
- Identify common risks in the medical practice
- Identify common methods of risk reduction
- Understand what to do when a board complaint or medical malpractice lawsuit occurs.

Juliana Stanley, MBA, FACMPE has been collaborating with physicians and medical practices for over 30 years, as a receptionist, billing professional, and office administrator; as a practice administration consultant for two large state medical associations; and now as a MICA risk management consultant. She has crossed state lines, disciplines, and specialties to do it, but her desire to support the practice of medicine remains constant.
Juliana continues to support medicine with practical well-rounded recommendations for preventing and strengthening the defense of medical professional liability lawsuits. She is spreading her knowledge and experience through the medical community as a member of the Medical Group Management Association of Arizona and New Mexico and the Health Leaders Association of Arizona, serving as a speaker, board member, and committee leader in both organizations.
Registration will close on Friday, November 28th 2025 at 5:00 p.m. Meeting and Lunch codes will be sent out no later than Tuesday, December 2nd by 9:00 a.m.
Lunch Details: Lunch will be provided for all attendees in the form of a $20 GRUBHUB code that will be emailed to you no later than July 9th by 9:00 am. (Please make sure your email is updated in your UMGMA membership profile.) If new to Grubhub, you will receive a welcome email and a request for you to register an account with them. Once registered, you may begin to place your order. You will see a $20 credit on your account from UMGMA at that time.
